Welcome to this digital glimpse into the ministries of Bloomington Covenant Church and its staff, ministries, and direction. There are links on this website to our denomination, the Evangelical Covenant Church (www.covchurch.org) where much more information can be found about the history of the Covenant Church and the breadth of ministries in which we’re involved.

For now, though, here is a "snapshot" of who we are and what we believe:

  • We are followers of Jesus Christ who believe that the Bible, the Old and New Testaments, is "the only perfect rule for faith, doctrine, and conduct."
  • We acknowledge the fact that we all have "issues" and that we all have sins that diminish us, others, and our relationship with God. We acknowledge that our only hope for full life is through the grace and mercy of Jesus Christ.
  • We highly value time together, whether in worship or at picnics, whether in serious settings or simply having fun, and we eagerly welcome new people to join us.
  • As members of the Evangelical Covenant Church we affirm the following points as central to our life together and our practice of Christian faith:
    • We affirm the centrality of God's Word
    • We affirm the necessity of new birth through Jesus Christ
    • We affirm a commitment to the whole mission of the Church
    • We affirm the Church as a fellowship of believers
    • We affirm a conscious dependence on the Holy Spirit
    • We affirm the reality of freedom in Christ

Central to Bloomington Covenant Church, in particular, are our statements about Mission and Vision. Although such statements can often be simply words with no life behind them, we are committed to growing into them, putting them into practice as broadly and continually as we can with the help of God:

Our Mission
Loving God and Loving Others;
Serving God through Serving Others
Our Vision
is to be a people who are:
...encouraging all members and friends of the congregation to grow as disciples of Jesus Christ through learning and living the Word;
...effectively ministering to people of all ages;
...evangelizing through the ministries of the church and through mentoring;
...fostering a church climate that is characterized by joyful oneness;
...developing a small group ministry that involves a large percentage of the congregation through intentional discipleship;
...expanding worship to include a variety of resources and forms, helping the congregation in this key element of church life;
...welcoming and assimilating new people into the church;
...and serving in Jesus’ name to address the needs of the community.
